My Financial Responsibility Action Plan and Promise

Pflugerville is drowning in debt and runaway spending. Our property taxes keep climbing, our debt has exploded towards $2 billion, and our City Council has repeatedly (and borderline illegally) bypassed voters to ram through their insane spending by issuing Certificates of Obligation. Meanwhile, they push unnecessary mega-projects like a likely to be $250 million city hall, monuments to themselves, paid for by you.

My opponent and his allies want more of the same: raise your taxes, pile on debt, and spend us into insolvency. With him there will be no fiscal relief. If we don’t stop them now, Pflugerville will be unaffordable for all of us and financially insolvent for our children.

My plan restores fiscal discipline by cutting spending, significantly lowering taxes, and putting you the voters back in charge. It’s aggressive because nothing less will save our city’s finances.

What We Can Do Right Now

Accountant
  • My Pledge: NO NEW TAXES.
I pledge to vote against any property tax increase, no matter what. Pflugerville families are already brutally overburdened, and the city cannot keep raising taxes on you while city council wastes money. The city must live within its means, just like every household in Pflugerville does.

  • Ban Bonds Without Voter Approval.
Council has used Certificates of Obligation (COs) to borrow millions without asking you. That ends. I pledge never to support a CO. Any new borrowing must be put on the ballot. If it can’t earn voter approval, it won’t happen. Voters approved around $40 Million for our new city hall, its cost is nearing $200 million with much more needed, how is that remotely acceptable?!

  • Full Debt Transparency.
Most residents don’t even realize how bad our debt is. I will promote launching an online Debt Dashboard showing exactly how much we owe, how much interest we’re paying, and how every project is being funded. We are a small community and our city belongs to all of us, We deserve to see the bill politicians are sticking our kids with.

Next Steps

  • Downgrade the ~$250 Million City Hall.
It's already under construction, which makes rescuing the fiscal nightmare that is this project difficult, but we don’t need a luxury city hall. I will vote to dramatically downsize this project as much as possible. City offices should be functional, not palaces built on the backs of taxpayers. That money should be redirected back to you or to real needs like roads, drainage, and public safety.

  • Eliminate the Roadway Impact Fee (also on my housing plan).
The current roadway impact fee adds $7,000–$13,000 per home, driving up housing costs and pushing development out of Pflugerville. I will vote to repeal it. We can fund roads through smarter budgeting, not by taxing families out of homeownership.

  • Cap Debt Levels.
I pledge to support a binding debt ceiling for Pflugerville. The city will not borrow beyond what we can responsibly repay. Any future debt will require a repayment plan tied to actual revenue growth.

For the Future

  • Aggressively Pay Down Debt.
I pledge to redirect all savings from canceled projects, efficiency audits, and budget surpluses into debt repayment. We will target the highest-interest bonds first, cutting millions in interest costs over time. Pflugerville must break its addiction to debt.

  • Restore Trust With Voter Power.
Every major project, city hall, rec centers, large-scale facilities, must go before the voters. No exceptions. Pflugerville residents, not City Council, will decide how their money is spent.

The Bottom Line

This plan cuts spending, lowers taxes, kills unnecessary projects, and restores voter control. The alternative is my opponents’ predictable plan of what City Council has been doing: raise taxes, pile on debt, and build monuments to themselves while families are priced out of Pflugerville.

We can’t afford more of the same. We have a unique opportunity to STOP this fiscal insanity NOW, we won’t have a functioning city left in ten years.

I’m running to put Pflugerville back on track, where families can afford to live and enjoy your life.
